New Version of the Muirburn Code

With input from Scotland's Moorland Forum, The Scottish Government has reprinted the Muirburn Code. This new version updates the contact information but introduces no changes to the main provisions of the Code. A copy of the new version can be downloaded here.

Heather Beetle

Heather beetle has the potential to cause extensive damage to heather. The Trust has prepared a summary of the information available about this pest and asks for feedback about any sightings of beetle damage. Heather Beetle information.

Heather for Holland

We are in contact with a firm that uses heather as a biofiltration medium to remove smells from waste gases e.g. from coffee roasting or rendering processes.

This could be of interest if you have an area of long rank heather with good access that you are thinking of cutting. You might be able to get some money from selling your heather to reduce the cost of the work.

Borreliosis and Associated Diseases Awareness UK (BADA-UK)

BADA-UK is campaigning about the dangers of Lyme diseases. They have published a leaflet that describes how to remove a sheep tick and the recommended precautions for recommended for people walking in tick areas. The leaflet can be downloaded from here.
