There has been much confusion about what the interest in carbon means for landowners and land managers. This conference aims to de-mystify some of the jargon and allow people to hear the story from those involved at the forefront of research and the investigation of opportunities.

Defra has announced a government allocation of £25m in the hope of eradicating Phytophthora ramorum and Phytophthora kernoviae .  Download official news release here

Scottish Government  has responded"In Scotland, work to tackle these diseases will continue as an integral part of Plant Health operations.  The Scottish Government is working with SEARS partners, including Forestry Commission and Scottish Natural Heritage, to draw up a plan for increased activity to tackle the diseases."

Scottish Government is working to draw up a programme of surveillance on heathland, and when plans are more advanced we will be contacting stakeholders to see how they can contribute.

November 18th 2008

Michael Russell MSP, Minister for Rural Affairs and the Environment, officially launched the ‘Snaring in Scotland' a practitioners' guide when he visited the Newtown St. Boswells campus of Borders College on Tuesday, November 18th.

November 17th 2008

In Scotland, there has been a recent Muirburn Consultation (ending on 17 Nov 08) about the need to change the muirburn season in response to the anticipated variations that climate change will introduce. We felt that there is insufficient evidence to introduce changes to the muirburn season based on climate change factors alone. However, we think there is good cause to instigate a review of the regulations governing muirburn and set out our justification for this in our response, which is available to download here.

October 10th 2008

In July 2008 DEFRA launched a consultation on future management of risks from Phytophthora ramorum and Phytophthora kernoviae.  This consultation closed on the 10th October 2008.  Our response to this consultation can be downloaded here
