Welcome to our April newsletter. It has been a lively and rewarding month, marked by two successful events: Lekkie and Brekkie 2026, and our book reading in Corbridge. We are very grateful to everyone who joined us, and we hope you came away with a deeper understanding of the challenges facing our uplands. You will find highlights from both events below.
Our annual Spring Auction is now live, with bidding open until 17 May 2026. We invite you to explore the full catalogue on our auction website. There truly is something for everyone.
Looking ahead, we are pleased to be hosting a series of upcoming events through our Women’s Upland Network this spring and summer. Membership and event participation are free for women who live in, work on, or simply love our upland landscapes.

Spring Auction is in full force!
Our annual Spring Auction started last week and is open until 17th May 2026. This year’s catalogue is full of exclusive and unique items, from shooting and fishing lots to holidays for two or for the whole family. Every donation and successful bid directly supports the vital work we do to champion sustainable, resilient moorlands, and funds our work to protect and restore these special landscapes.

EVENT SUMMARY
Lekkie and Brekkie 2026
The early start for Lekkie & Brekkie 2026 was well worth it! Attendees had the opportunity to witness 2 black grouse leks, and many other species which thrive on Abercairny Estate. Expertly led by the estate keeper, the event was very well-received by our guests, some of whom managed to capture some stunning photos.
Thank you to everyone who attended and we hope you left the event learning a little bit more about the black grouse and the issues affecting them and our uplands.
Below are photos of some of the wildlife we saw during the event:

If you enjoyed this event or if you missed out on attending, we have a Lot in our Spring Auction offering an exclusive morning to observe the extraordinary black grouse lekking at Abercairny Estates for up to 3 people around the week of 12/04/2027. This will be a private experience perfect for bird watchers or for those who want to see a black grouse lek up close.

EVENT SUMMARY
Book reading at Corbridge
A huge thank you to the wonderful team at Forum Books, Corbridge for hosting our book reading and drinks reception on Thursday 23rd April.
It was a lovely opportunity to share Katrina Candy’s latest children’s book ‘Heather Munro’s Race Against the Flames’. A topical tale, aimed at gently educating children about the dangers and risks of wildfire.
Forum Books are now stocking the title, or copies can be purchased via The Heather Trust website:
