About the Women's Upland Network

From Conversation to Community

The Women’s Upland Network is a Heather Trust initiative and was borne from a conversation between Viv Gill (Chair, The Heather Trust), Emily Taylor (Heather Trust Board member) and Katrina Candy (Director, The Heather Trust) in 2024 during which they recognised the need to celebrate the contribution of women in shaping our incredible uplands.

A founding group was formed, bringing together women with diverse interests and experiences from across the UK, to drive this initiative forward. Today, this ten-strong group is building a supportive and long-term network that celebrates the diversity of women’s contributions and the challenges they continue to face in these remote and beautiful landscapes.

The Women’s Upland Network provides visibility, skills development and peer support for women who want to connect, collaborate and lead within the UK upland sector. Through events, networking, shared learning and storytelling, WUN strengthens the voice and impact of women in agriculture, conservation and rural industries.

Connection

Building a network where women in upland communities can meet, share experiences, collaborate and grow professionally.

Empowerment

Providing tools, knowledge and opportunities to develop skills, leadership and confidence among the women in our uplands.

Visibility

Celebrating women across upland sectors and showcasing members, businesses and projects to raise and inspire others.
